37: Chanson d'Andy - Gene Kelly

Writer: Charles CherneyCharles Cherney

When asked what my favorite movie is of all time, my answer is The Young Girls of Rochefort (French: Les Demoiselles de Rochefort; literally "The Young Ladies of Rochefort"), a 1967 French musical film written and directed by Jacques Demy. The ensemble cast includes Gene Kelly as Andy.

One of many fantastic scenes is that of Gene Kelly dancing "dans la rue" after having met Solange. Andy's song is that of joy. Here it is. Enjoy:

One does not need to speak French to understand the meaning of this scene. For Gene Kelly's character (Andy), love is in the air and the song is joy. And so it is for all of us. Listen for it. And dance!
